It is very irrelevant in America today..

Ahh...its been great seeing the guys again in such a short time-span! I could easily get used to seeing them again once a year :-)
Of course yet again an EXCELLENT SHOW! So much full of energy....great comradery.. Eddie being his goofy and humble self. Mike jumping around like a Mexican jumping bean.
The boys took stage really late.... tech roadies were fiddling around with something for quite some time...so I'm figuring its due to that. The band took stage around 9:45pm.... opened with Release.... and oh what a great release that was....from the start, the whole FleetCenter was singing along in perfect unison.
Last Exit, Hail Hail, Save You (still one of my favorites currently!), Love Boat Captain, Blood, Dissident, Insignificance, just to name a few.....the acoustic portion of the set included an always hair raising Masters of War, Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town....and a very amusing Last Kiss (Eddie explained that since they are an equal opportunity band, they needed to play for the people sitting behind the stage (yes...they did sell the seats located behind the stage!)...the band proceeded to turn their backs to the rest of the audience....but we all became their back-up clappers....:-)
the oldies ....Evenflow, Jeremy, Crazy Mary... and fittingly.... Alive was the final closer......dedicated to the West Memphis Three. (btw....the shows profits went to assisting with legal fees in such associated with the infamous case)
Eddie was surprisingly non-political...which was good for me.... we don't share the exact same political views....although our music tastes are quite similar. Nevertheless.....the audience participation was at its usual ......so a great time!!!
Eddie actually pointed out this time that they were unaware of the fact that they haven't technically been in "Boston" in many years.... they've ...as he put it "been out there in west-wood-field-land" ....lol....Mansfield, Mass... ... its actually been about 10 years since they last technically played in Boston! (Wasn't that at the Garden?) ....i saw them at the Orpheum in Boston back in '94.... now THAT was intimate! :-)
THANKS AGAIN! ...wish they did those bootlegs again.....
Can we do 2005 as well??? hehe.
I put Boston in quotes up above because whenever bands come to the Tweeter Center here in Mass, they list it as Boston and address the crowd as Boston...even though we are 40 minutes outside of Boston. Oh well. And those sirens above.....they remind me of "evacuation".. dunno..... all i can hear in my head is "Evacuation! EVAC-UATION!". Could be the high adreniline....still coursing through my pumped veins. God, this was an incredible show!
First off, THANK YOU (again!) to the Pearl Jam Fanclub for hooking me up with EXCELLENT TICKETS!!!! I was second row, to the right of the stage (Stone's side). Perhaps next time around we'll make it first? Hehe... I am greatful for having been a member since 1994! :)
Ok, now time to get down to business. For the early attenders, Eddie did a "Deadman Walking" solo show for us...prior to the Buzzcocks taking set. That was very cool, and unexpected! The Buzzcocks took set right after Ed introduced them... they were cool. Not my style of music, but these guys were good. We had an kickass Buzzcocks fan sitting across from us....his life was made when he got their setlist and drumsticks after their set. Cool, dude. I like to see people happy. :)
Ahem. The boys took stage at 9pm sharp. Opened with Ocean...wow..wow...wow...good mood setter! Put on an absolutely incredible set! Eddie informed us that since they were here for 3 days (3rd & 11th), they were not going to repeat any songs during those 3 sets...and try and play the 80 something they had in catalog.. or 105 he corrected if you include EVERYTHING (is that all accurate?). Wish I could be there for the 3rd, but I have to work....i work in the industry that dosen't sleep... radio.
Porch, Deep, SOLAT, Leaving Here, Smile, I Am Mine, Whipping, Elderly Woman, Get Right...., E-Flow. Leaving Here was an added bonus... so cool. If you cant tell...i am still in awe. Eddie jumped up onto the speakers and climbed to the top speaker in front of me during the Porch solo... everyone in the band was pumped with energy tonight!
Mike was happy as ever...looking great. Being goofy as usual and trying to rial up his side of the stage every chance he got. It was interesting to see Jeff and Stone switch instruments and places during Smile... Dissident will never be the same to me.... I got a smirk from Ed...... ;).... and again while i was dancing away to one of Mike's extra long solos..(you couldnt miss me...im 5'8 and i was jumping around and dancing like crazy in the 2nd row...only one in my immediate section... lol)
Hmm...what else? Of course Bushleager was played...and Ed did his Bush mask and this shiny silver jacket thing....Bush got a big wet sloppy Eddie kiss, too! ;) Mike whipped off his shirt near the end to expose us to the fact that he needs a tan (and maybe a few sit-ups..lol...hey...i am happy to see him healthy ...old super skinny druggy mike was looking kinda scary at its end point back in the day!)... Eddie laughed at him for a minute or so while sitting on the side of the stage having a smoke. The comradery between the guys in the band is so great..... i noticed this even more being right next to the stage. Kept me laughing and smiling. Evacuation...Go...Nothingman...Immortality...an interesting version of My Tree...Hail, Hail... Save You (this is my current favorite song!....)...and many more..... more and more songs come back to me as I type... im sure you can find a setlist somewhere online...I can't wait to get a bootleg of the show (www.pearljambootlegs.com)! First encore Eddie brought out Luke the Uke... (it's a girl!) and played Soon Forget ...the show was finally wrapped up with their kickass version of Neil Young's "Fuckin' Up" ..once again.... always a good ender.
Well, my conclusion: This was by far an incredible show!!!!! So much energy!!! Good trashy jokes about Celine Dion! Laughs had, danced a bunch, jumped a whole other bunch, clapped a whole bunch, sang A LOT, and screamed my little head off! (Boy, is my voice gonna be crackly tommorrow!) The crowd/band connection was so incredible. Too bad I can't make it to the 3rd...gotta make the $$ to pay the bills. But I will be there the 11th... (no fan club tix... so my seats are not nearly as good....but oh well.... )
Tonight was like a dream come true to a long-time fan like me. It still kind of dosent feel like it was real! Went by so fast...i tried to take in every moment of the 2 hr set! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!My ears caught a steady hold of Pearl Jam in 1993...i was only 13 at the time. They never let go..... and I dont think they ever will.
Ok...I am rambling on now...it is 2 am....time for bed!
Thank-You. Good-night! I'll see you July 11th!
First off, before I begin, just let me give a big "FUCK YOU" to all the gutless, unappreciative assholes that called the local radio stations after the show complaining that the concert sucked. Those people and their choice words belong in the category of people who think rock stars are super-human and need to see the world for what it is really worth. Abd another thing .. to the guy that complained about the lack of a mosh pit up front: do you live in a cave?!? Do you have any remorse?! It takes guts to get back up after you see your own fans drop dead in front of you. Be respectul. Fucknuts.
Anyhow, besides that matter of bad name calling, I personally thought the show rocked. Having been my 5th PJ concert over the last 8 years, I have slowly watched them grow (just add water...) but somehow remain the same group of guys.
The show started off a bit rought, opening act, Sonic Youth were plagued with technical problems throughout their set, but they still managed to please the early crowd. PJ came on alittle past 8 o'clock (early!). Things looked kinda shady at first, the boys seemed to have little interactions with each other and seemed a bit disgruntled. On top of that, Eddie had looked like he had just woken up. Maybe so, but after the first few songs, things began to lighten up and never stopped getting better throughout the rest of the night. Maybe they just needed a lil warm-up?
The setlist consisted of much of the new CD, which I must admit: Beyond the fact that the cd is an awesome compilaiton of tunes, many of the lyrics are difficult to decifer! I have listened to it 200+ times and on a few songs can do a "...mm.... yea... one....la la la......" as i try and figure out what the hell eddie is saying! So, that did make is a bit hard for the audience to sing along with the new stuff.
They later broke into the oldies, and played such stuff as Rearviewmirror, Evenflow, Jeremy, Porch, Once, Corduroy, and Evolution. Two encores were incredible. The final encore consisted of Yellow Ledbetter and the concert ended with Neil Young's "Fuckin' Up". Also, some lil extras consisted of "Crazy Mary", and Eddie's solo "Patriot" which he played following his request to seek alternate parties in the upcoming election if you were tired of the usual 2. Awesome setlist.
Also, always keepin the audience amused, Stone began playing a different song than the rest of the band at one point, which left the audience and the rest of the band laughing. Eddie brought us to the attention that they will be celebrating their 10th anniversay this coming October.. (WOW). Mike was happy as ever, full of smiles, pointing and waving at fans and throwing out guitar pics left and right. It was nice to see Matt Cameron behind the drums, his energy was impressive. Jeff stayed mute, much like usual. However, Stone did sing Mankind, and before the song told the audience this was our punishment for having laughed at him earlier..;).
The show rocked. Humor, music, and a group of personable guys. On top of that, the Fan Club once again treated me right with 10th row-dead center- tickets!! (THANKS!!!) To the band: Admist a rocky year in regards to the unfortunate death of fans at the Roskilde show, you guys have managed to keepin rockin like you usually do! THANK-YOU!
